The Phoenix Brief - 15th April 2024
Yes, Yes, Yes
Yes! Yes! Yes! Oh what a night in wet & stormy Wellington to watch the Phoenix Men snatch a last minute winner to ensure the race to be #1 goes right to the wire. There are just two regular season games left now: next week away at Newcastle, then home at Sky Stadium to Macarthur on Saturday April 27th at 7.15pm. But, the win does ensure there will definitely be a home play-off game (or two) in Wellington in May (see below for rough dates).
The Weekend Past
The Phoenix Men played at home to 3rd place Melbourne Victory on a wet & stormy night at Sky Stadium. The Phoenix were more adventurous than normal and the game was a tense but high class encounter and went end-to-end in the second half. It looked like it was going to be one of those “absolutely non-boring 0-0s” when a fantastic free-kick in the last minute of the game from Van Hattum found Finn Surman to head the ball into the net, 1-0 Phoenix! Cue the stadium going nuts!
