The Phoenix Brief - 4th March 2024

Goals Galore (some good)

Crazy weekend of events in Wellington, and although NZ lost the cricket test, our rip roaring league leading Phoenix Men advance on, whilst the Phoenix Women desperately need to get back to Sweet Home Porirua….

The Weekend Past

The Phoenix Men beat Adelaide 3-2 at Sky Stadium with the game being tied at 1-1 before Chiefy was bold with his substitutions and the team finished the game strongly to go 3-1 up before Adelaide sneaked one back right at the end. Ben Old scoring 2 sweet goals, and Oskar van Hattum getting his first A-League goal:

The team are 3 points clear of Central Coast, 1 point now until a record points haul for a season and we’re now 15 points inside the play-off zone, 7 games to go:

Also:

The Phoenix Women meanwhile started badly away at Melbourne Victory going in a half-time 0-4 down before recovering slightly to lose 3-5. Just like the men in previous years, they need to get home and get confidence back and with 3 games in Porirua in March they have that opportunity. They are 10th on the table (out of 12), but still only 5 points off the play-offs:
