Tricky Away Games
Welcome to 2024, two tough but entertaining away games over the weekend but just the one point, both teams are still well-placed but the women need to start winning away. Note that next weekend is the “Unite” round where all games are played in Sydney.
The Weekend Past
The Phoenix Men drew 2-2 away at Adelaide in an very entertaining game where we took the lead twice with well worked goals from on-fire Kosta Barbarouses only to be undone defensively from aggression and quick feet. The team is now 2nd in the table, 2 points behind Melbourne Victory:
Also:
The Phoenix Women went down 1-2 away at Brisbane, the first half was fairly even and the Phoenix went 1-0 up through new star Isabel Cox before Brisbane dominated the second half. The ref did miss a blatant hand-ball which would have given us a penalty but Brisbane did hit the bar / post several times. The team are now in 4th (top 6 qualify for play-offs):
