The Phoenix Brief – 10th February 2025
Still in the mixer
Both teams finished the week with a 1-1 draw. The men would be disappointed to drop points against the bottom placed team, where the women would be happy to take a point from a side they have yet to beat.
The Weekend Past
The Phoenix Men…
Played on Waitangi Day here in Wellington. The first 15minutes you would not have thought Brisbane were a wooden spoon team, dominating the attack. The men managed to muscle their way back into the game, with Ishige having a fantastic goal ruled out for off-side. Isaac Hughes finally scored at the right end before the Roar equalised shortly after. The game had plenty of controversy in the VAR department again.
A tough run of games for the Nix, mostly away, against in-form sides. However a new signing is expected to be announced shortly.
The Phoenix Women…
Played at home at Fortress Porirua. After an early set-piece from the training ground, McCutcheon found the back of the net, and celebrated in style. The women had plenty of chances and looked like they were going to make history against Victory, until an error at the back was capitalised. Given this was their best chance of the game, the Nix will be disappointed to finish with just a point against 2nd place.
