The Phoenix Brief – 13th January 2025
Short turnarounds
Both teams have short turnarounds over these weeks, with the women playing on Thursday and again Sunday. And the men playing Saturday, this Wednesday and again on Monday.
The Weekend Past
The Phoenix Men…
Continue to struggle without Alex Rufer and without much confidence at the moment. Another early goal conceded at the 7th minute (that’s 3 at that exact minute this season,) makes the rest of the game an uphill battle. There were moments of positivity, and Corban Piper looked lively, heading the Phoenix back into the contest. However it was the howler from Nix keeper Oluwayemi that made headlines again, gifting Adelaide the 3 points. 2-1.

The Phoenix Women…
Played a mid-week game against Western Sydney Wanderers, and put up an outstanding attacking display. The first goal coming inside the first 7 seconds of the second half, was some individual brilliance and goal of the season contender. The game finished 3-0 despite having 44 shots!
The women stayed in Australia for their next game against 5th placed Adelaide. Hot temperatures proved to be too much for the women, as they also went down 2-1. The Women now sit 5th.
