The Phoenix Brief – 15th April 2025
Planning for next season
Mathematically both teams finals chances are officially over after the weekends performances. GM David Dome has since stated:
Both teams have underperformed against expectations. That’s not the objective of the club. We’ve already started a review process which will be finished very soon.
The Weekend Past
The Phoenix Men…
In classic 24/25 fashion, conceded in the first couple of minutes, before Corban Piper found an equaliser shortly after. (A player who has impressed me this season, not the most technically gifted, but a general workhorse that isn’t afraid to get a little grubby.) It wasn’t looking good for the Nix after conceding goals before and after the half to be down 3-1. That was until Retre was subbed on, scored an absolute worldy of a goal and injuring himself in the process. The final 20mins were hectic but again, in classic 24/25 fashion, we couldn’t get a result. 3-2.
The Phoenix Women…
Struggled to win away throughout this season, and the game against Canberra was no difference. After conceding from a set piece in the 25th minute, the Nix just couldn’t get into the game, which might not be too much of a surprise seeing as their goal scoring form is the second lowest in the competition. The final game will be played at Porirua Park, for pride, ahead of an announcement of Coach Temple’s future.
