The Phoenix Brief – 17th March 2025
At least we have Sweet Home Porirua
The Men managed to save face from an unwanted record run of losses. Whilst the Women were super unlucky not to close out the game with a point.
The Men’s season is all but over and playing for pride, whereas the Women can still sneak in, but will need to win at least 3 of the last 4 matches… 3 of the games are at home, but all 4 matches are against teams above them in the ladder.
The Weekend Past
The Phoenix Men…
Didn’t lose! That’s the headline. It’s a shame the team haven’t played with the fight they showed last night, especially in the final minutes. Stand-out performance was our import keeper, Josh Oluwayemi, who had been sitting on the bench for many weeks prior. He was certainly the difference in ensuring a point.
The Phoenix Women…
Felt heartbreak in the dying moments of the game. It was one of those results which just doesn’t seem fair. Sydney’s 2 shots on target were 2 goals (vs Phoenix 9 on target). The women were dominant all game but just couldn’t close it out. Phoenix will be without central defender Jaber following her second yellow card of the match.
