The Phoenix Brief – 23 December 2024

Christmas Gifts and Christmas Coal

It’s a tale of two different trajectories at the minute, with the Women starting to take flight, and the Men starting to struggle.

The Weekend Past

The Phoenix Men…

Started the game 1-0 down very quickly. I made the point about Hughes last week and another error from the young defender has hurt us early again. Ishige gave the Nix some hope with a superb bicycle kick to take the score to 2-1. The 2 goal lead was restored minutes later. A 4-1 loss and third defeat in a row, makes for some interesting decisions for Chiefy coming up.

The Phoenix Women…

Fortune favours a little different. After an extended, rain-(lightning) delayed, half time break, the Phoenix came out firing. Goals scored by Jale and McMeeken, saw the Phoenix weather the storm of defending A-League champs. Coach Paul Temple said the extended half-time break gave him time to review the first half and make some tactical tweaks.
