The Phoenix Brief – 25th November 2024

Unite Round We Love You

Unite Round saw both Wellington teams playing in Sydney against non-Sydney opposition. However, 6 points and two clean sheets is nothing to complain about!

Both teams are not playing next weekend, so it’ll be a long wait for more Wellington football. The women will be back at home and the men away in Auckland, both shaping up to be fantastic games.

The Weekend Past

The Phoenix Men…

…with the two starting Wing Backs out with minor injuries – Tim Payne and Sam Sutton, there were a lot of questions how Chiefy might approach the game. The first half saw the Phoenix soak up a lot of pressure and shots on goal. Some minor tactical and personale changes at the break seemed to be the difference. Rojas assisted inform Kosta to seal all 3 points.

Table Update: After Unite Round

The Phoenix Women…

… Get their first win of the season! A rare one at that, having only previously won 6/30 games away in their history. A brave effort after plenty of media attention during the week; (import released 14 days after signing). The Nix went up 1-0 through Maya McCutcheon’s first professional goal, just before the half. The Women then held on through a nerve-wracking 8 mins of added time to secure all 3 points.
