The Phoenix Brief – 31st March 2025
It's all for pride now
And that’s that. The women were unable to break Melbourne’s 20 game unbeaten streak to keep their top 6 chances alive. With the few games left, the focus will begin to shift to next season and perhaps we will see more young players get some more game time.
The Weekend Past
The Phoenix Men…
Played in front of one of the smallest home crowds ever. I’m sure there were many factors involved: Cuba Dupa, the Canes the night before, lots of starters out or injured, or maybe our home record of only 1 win this season. Ironically, it was one of the better games we’ve played – we changed tactic and didn’t play out from the back, and we played with more freedom going forward. A 2-2 draw, and an exciting watch.
The Phoenix Women…
Had the impossible task of trying to curb the inform league leaders, Melbourne City. Yet, despite a penalty save, and having two chances cleared on the line, the Nix just couldn’t claw the game back, going down 1-0. The A-League Women now pauses for the International Break.
