The Phoenix Brief – 3rd March 2025

Top 6 is slowly drifting away

Both teams are needing every point they can get in their remaining games to have the best (and mathematical) chance of sneaking in to the top 6. Both teams have made the finals push much harder after the weekend.

The Weekend Past

The Phoenix Men…

Played at home ‘under the lights’ at Sky Stadium. Many fans were hoping for a big reaction after last weeks humiliating defeat in Auckland. Yellow Fever did not stop singing for the entirety of the first half, which created an epic atmosphere. Unfortunately the Nix went down 1-0 – officially no shots registered on target, but the City keeper did have to make at least 1 crucial save to keep the clean sheet.

The Phoenix Women…

Have dropped points at their home fortress. After going down 1-0 early in the half, Fergusson equalised just before the break. This was not enough to swing momenteum back towards the Nix, as inform Adelaide outshot the Nix 31-8. A brace from Lucia Leon saw the Nix fall 3-1 in the end.
