The Phoenix Brief – 4th November 2024
We rally and go again...
A crazy weekend of football with the women’s campaign kicking off, and the first ever NZ Derby held here in the capital!
The Weekend Past
The Phoenix Men…
With a lot of media hype and build up throughout the week, drew their largest ever crowd to a regular season game. This meant a lot of noise and a lot of yellow to welcome our 09 neighbours to the A-League. The toughly fought battle found a winner in the last few minutes of regular time. Fighting for a point, the men saw themselves concede again. We meet Auckland again in 5 weeks time.
“We gave them the three points, that’s the way I look at it. Can’t convince me otherwise.”
The Phoenix Women…
Kicked off their campaign (and the opening match for the Ninja League) on Friday night. After quickly going up 1-0, we found ourselves down 4-1 at halftime. The match finished 4-2. We looked good going forward, held a lot of the ball and had more shots—a few defensive lapses really cost the points. Lots to build from.
